Today we visited the Thames Festival and more specifically, the Feast on the Bridge on Southwark Bridge. The bridge itself has been closed for the event and sofas and tables now sit where traffic normally crawls. There was a party air to the event and with long tables laid out for visitors to sit down and rest or enjoy the food, it was reminiscent of Jubilee street carnivals. Cue also bands, family friendly stalls and and lots of eating and drinking. There's a strong emphasis throughout on good farming practices, good environmental practice and hands on opportunities (including butter making and pumpkin sculpture); accordingly, everyone seemed in a party mood. The South side of the bridge was full with food and drink vendors selling not only high quality pork and beef products (I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of my hot dog) but also regional stalls such as Greek, Indiana and Moroccan foods. A charming little event, it runs across this weekend (till 10 at night) and with good weather forecast, provides a nice afternoon or evening out in London; we combined our visit with a riverside walk and The Thames Clipper back home. Busy but fun.
