MEATmarket: a 10 step guide

Step 1: Look up

When entering Jubilee Market look up, that's where you'll find MEATmarket.

Step 2: Read the menu

The writing is on the wall here, literally.

Step 3: Identify the counter

Here's the big difference to MEATliquor, it's not table service, it's not really a restaurant, it is a fast food outlet with a counter.

Step 4: Place your order

Approach the counter and err... place your order (nicely).

Step 5: Take a seat

Step 6: Giggle at the signs while you wait

Step 7: pick up your food

When your name is called, go collect your food.

Step 8: enjoy your food

The food will be familiar to many, served on familiar trays in the familiar red and white wrapping. There's the famous Dead Hippie burger, so well described on the web already I wont, as well as the 'Double Bubble' and 'Black Palace' burgers. We're guessing the burger choice will evolve in time, the place has only been open around two weeks, but the classic cheeseburger is unavailable while the only difference between the Double Bubble and Black Palace is that one has minced white onions while the other has grilled white onions, so not large. The burger is of course it's usual messy and delicious self. Philly Cheesesteak is also an option.

There's fries, poppaz and corn puppies available as sides, an ice-cream sweet and bottomless soda. There's also milk shakes including the Beige which has a shot of Woodford Reserve in and is pretty damn good.

Step 9: dispose of your rubbish in the bin

Step 10 (optional): use the facilities as you exit

This is a different format for the MEATliquor's food, an 'obvious' format for the type of food it is (everything can be purchased to take out also) and is a welcome addition to the market (no pun intended). It's also quite clever because it doesn't really compete with MEATliquor: there's a more limited menu (possibly too why the cheeseburger isn't there), there's no liquor of course, and the venue is amusing but certainly not cool. It means that MEATmarket is an ideal place to drop by and grab a burger if you are in the area but in itself, it is not really a destination. It therefore also means that despite this opening, MEATliquor will still have them queuing out the door on a Friday and Saturday night (and every other night probably).

For those who love MEATliquor (and we include ourselves in that group), MEATmarket's opening will be welcomed as it makes their food significantly more accessible, and that has to be a good thing.

you guys need to work on your writing skills a bit I think. I check out various foodblogs and read the reviews wondering why not a single one seems to have a good writer at the helm. Especially SkinnyBib who writes the most reviews with the least quality. Luckily he has rich parents who finance his life

bumblepop,

is there a point to your comment other than to be nasty?

blogs are hobbies of amateurs, nothing more. if you don't like our food blogs, don't read them.

spend your time on things you do enjoy and maybe you will be a happier and nicer person.

Way to go, thecriticalcouple! Perfection isn't fun. It's the little flaws that give character and enhance enjoyment. Just like in food - although I do allow that perfect food is a noble goal.

I must make my way to Jubilee Market to try out MEATMarket, it's just too much fun! Thanks for sharing this new eatery.

Wow bumblepop, bit of a chip on your shoulder? Strange.
I would concur with the CC - just stop reading blogs and immerse yourself in a book or something.

CC- thanks for the post. I paid meatmarket a visit last Monday and was thrilled to be able to pop in for an unplanned quick dinner, having never had the patience to queue for Liquor. I had a Dead Hippy and jalapeno poppers and they were both awesome. Weirdest thing was that though it felt like a 'dirty burger' in the best possible way - messy, meaty, dripping with juice/grease - actually i had no sense of 'I can still taste the grease' hours later as i expected I might. In the words of the great literary giant, 'Arnie', 'i'll be back'.

Well I didn't like the place much (blogged it, bumblepop in case you wish to critique my writing...) - but I liked the 10 step format of the review.

Manageable and original. Good post.

I took 15 of our students here and they loved it, some of them said that they were the best burgers they'd ever had. I'd never been before but i must admit, i've been a frequent visitor since!! Probably too frequent!

Bumblepop - Didn't your mother ever teach you that if you don't have anything good to say to not say anything at all? Also, your grammar and punctuation is awful so i hardly think you're in a position to criticize!
