What's more, and we'd knew it would happen one day, we forgot to take the camera so were forced to take the pictures on a friend's compact. It's not the same which in itself is a shame because the food was fantastic and we'd like to to it justice in the pictures. Our apologies then to the restaurant for the pictures we do include for being substandard.
The first thing we'd note about our visit is that the service was excellent and while our waiter said he had only been with The Hawksmoor for just three weeks, he was totally on top of the menu and was able to guide us effortlessly through. He was also efficient and friendly and he did his job very well.
With four around the table, we got to try many things and they were all excellent, with nothing letting the side down. Startes included the Tamworth Belly Ribs, Corned beef and bacon, Grilled Poole Clams in Bacon and Bone Broth. There was also a King Scallop ordered which really was majestic. The portion sizes were large which in some ways makes it great value but also began to fill us up perhaps a little too early; this isn't a complaint though as they do provide doggie bags for what you can't eat and while skipping ahead, the Porterhouse steak we ordered came home with us almost intact and served for lunch for the next two days.
On the mains, a couple of steaks were expertly done (the Porthouse noted above as well as a Ribeye). A burger was ordered and shared and was even better than I previously remember and a half lobster was cooked to perfection.
A side of Macoroni Cheese was moreish while we chose beef dripping chips which were lovely in their own right but were even more lovely dipped into the incredibly rich Bone Marrow Gravy. We were all too full for puds.
Hawksmoor is not a cheap option but it is a quality option offering a high degree of reliability. The space itself is absolutely superb, a converted underground warehouse style space that oozes character like the food oozes flavour. Bloggers love the Hawksmoor and our names can be added to that list. What the Hawksmoor does, it does very well indeed. We, and our guests, thoroughly enjoyed the meal and know it's the kind of place that we'll be coming back to again and again.
