Burger & Lobster is undoubtedly a phenomena and since putting it on the website in February of this year, it has been the most popular post every month since, still receiving twice as many hits as any other restaurant on our site. We said in the post that B&L offered the best value lobster that we knew of in a UK restaurant and from the hits the post receives, punters clearly can't get enough of lobster and chips for £20, even if only reading about it.
So what does all this have to do with Big Easy I hear you cry? Well, in the comments section on that post Tom, who I can only presume is affiliated with Big Easy left the following comment:
The Big Easy on the Kings Road dwarfs those prices and it's EXCELLENT:
"Lobster Festival" Whole fresh Nova Scotia/Native Lobster served steamed with fries, house salad and a free Jose Cuervo Gold frozen Margarita or ice cold beer.
Includes Vat, excludes service. Subject to availability.
£14.95 P/P
Oh and the burger is excellent too, and only £7.90!
Got to be one of the best places in town for Lobster/ Ribs/ Burgers etc.
Just wanted to share this with you.
More of a cut and paste advert from the website really but a quick bit of research suggested everything Tom said was in fact true and we felt happy to let the comment stand. Finding ourselves unexpectedly on the Kings Road today, following the exclamation 'wow, that's Big Easy there', we went a step further and decided to pay them a visit to check out these claims in person (proper camera absent so apologies to all for the pictures today).
With Big Easy being a nickname for the city of New Orleans, on the Kings Road, it's no surprise to find that Big Easy models itself on a US crabshack, even going so far as to cover tables with brown wrapping paper. The menu is huge with steaks, burgers, ribs fish, everything together in combos, indeed, everything you could possibly think of that might be on offer at an American roadhouse diner. It's the specials board that's caught our eye however for it's here that the 'lobster festival' is showcased. Good of our waitress to point this out without real prompting too. There's daily specials on the board also which are of the 'all you can eat' variety. This together with Margaritas served from Kwik-E Mart squishee style dispensing machines made me think of the Simpsons on more than one occasion.
The order had to be the lobster, chips and Margarita for £14.95. Separately, the Margarita alone sells for £6.95 so this is a complete bargain. The lobster is slightly smaller than the one served at B&L but there are no complaints here. It was really well cooked, really tasty, the chips (proper fat chips) were also done just right and were in plentiful supply and it all came with a generous cup of hollandaise sauce and some green salad on the side. It was actually really excellent and I have to say incredible value for money: you simply can't complain when it is this good at this price.

We felt pretty full from the mains but so happy with what we had received so far, we thought we'd try dessert too (priced at £5.50). One sticky toffee pudding, and one Apple Cinnamon Waffle. Big portions again the STP what you'd expect and the waffle a little different (at least for London), though quite sweet, a lot of sugar going on here, but satisfying at a basic level.
On stepping inside and seeing the 'crabshack' appearance, knowing the prices were cheap (for anywhere and this is the Kings Road of all places), we wondered just how bad this would be. Call me a convert for this was actually really good. Lobster, chips, dessert, a Margarita and two more beers, with service, the cost, £32 per person. There were about a hundred items on the menu we didn't try and we can't say how their burger compares for example. But on the limited evidence of our lobster, chips and Margarita, we found Big Easy to be excellent for both food and value leaving us wondering why it is not more talked about.
